To see the Prophet in a dream

The question:

Our Sheikh! I saw the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم in a vision three different times, what is therefore the interpretation of my dream?

The answer:

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon whom Allah sent as a mercy to the Worlds, upon his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.

Know that if the features of the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم seen in a dream are in conformity with those during his existence in this world, then he saw the truth. Because the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم said: “Whoever sees me in a dream then he indeed has seen the truth, as Satan cannot appear in my shape”(1) in another version “Whoever sees me (in a dream) then he indeed has seen the truth”(2) because to see him صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم while sleeping is not true only if the known features are in conformity with the characteristics of the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم, and if they are not conform; they are only just mixed up false dreams and a manipulation of Satan. Satan takes another shape and makes the person who is unaware of the features of the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم in this world think that it is his shape, whereas it is not. For this reason, when a man tells Ibn Sîrîne رحمه الله that he saw the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم, he tells him: “Describe to me what you have seen” and if he mentions to him a feature that he did not know (of the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم), he tells him: “You did not see him” (3).By this way, we can know who has really seen the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم and the one to whom Satan makes think that he has seen him.

The perfect knowledge belongs to Allah عزَّ وجلَّ. Our last prayer is all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon our Prophet, his Family, his Companions and Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.
