Concerning the conditions of the valid Âdhân

Question:

What are the conditions that must be observed for a valid Âdhân? May Allah reward you.

Answer:

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon whom Allah sent as a mercy to the Worlds, upon his Family, his Companions and his Brothers till the Day of Resurrection:

The legislated Âdhân is that which is pronounced in accordance with the conditions of validity among which: Al-Âdhân must be in its fixed time to announce the prayer time by complying with Tawqîfî (1) wording of Al-Âdhân which the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وآله وسلَّم taught Abû Mahdhûra رضي الله عنه. The wording must be ordered in a Tawqîfî way where it is not permissible to advance, delay or invert (the expressions of Al-Âdhân). In addition, we have also to take into consideration that the words of Al-Âdhân must correspond with the authentic version that is reported in the religious texts; also, Al-Mu’adhdhin(2) must pronounce Al-Âdhân in accordance with its ordered religious wording. And it goes without saying that Al-Mu’adhdhin must be Muslim. Whenever these conditions are fulfilled, Al-Âdhân is valid and religiously accepted.

The perfect knowledge belongs to Allah عزَّ وجلَّ. Our last prayer is all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. Peace and blessing be upon our Prophet, his Family, his Companions and Brothers till the Day of Resurrection.
